Wisconsin Englishes Project (WEP)

Tom Purnell, Joe Salmons, and Eric Raimy founded the WEP in 2003. Collaborators on this project study the varieties of English spoken in Wisconsin now and in the past, as well as the range of other languages spoken throughout the state.

Dictionary of American Regional English

UW-Madison is also home to the Dictionary of American Regional English (DARE) project, a multi-volume reference work that documents words, phrases, and pronunciations that vary from one place to another place across the United States.
