We are happy to welcome Professor Caroline Niziolek (Communication Sciences & Disorders) to the Language Sciences faculty!
Dr. Niziolek conducts research on the Neurolinguistics of speech, focusing on the relationship between auditory processing and motor programming. She is the Principal Investigator of the Brain, Language, & Acoustic Behavior (BLAB) Lab. The BLAB lab is part of the Speech Motor Neuroscience Group at UW-Madison, together with the Speech Motor Action + Control (SMAC) Lab, led by Ben Parrell.
It has been wonderful to see the Lang Sci faculty continue to grow. In recent years we have been joined by Jeremy Hutton (Classical, Ancient, & Near Eastern Studies), who studies ancient Northwest Semitic languages and interpretations of religious texts, and Gary Lupyan (Psychology), whose research investigates the relationship between language and cognition. We have also been able to hire a new faculty member in Language Sciences – Ryan Henke, who focuses on language revitalization and the acquisition of indigenous languages. Our unit continues to be strengthened by the expertise of faculty across campus who work in diverse areas of language science.
