Welcome to our new Director, Dr. Rajiv Rao

Language Sciences is pleased to welcome Rajiv Rao as our next Director, effective July 1st 2021.

Dr. Rao received his PhD from the University of California-Davis, and began his faculty career at Northern Illinois University. He subsequently moved to UW-Madison in 2009.

Dr. Rao is currently an associate professor in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. He formerly served as the director of the Spanish Language Program there, and his research focuses on Spanish phonetics and phonology. In addition to being on the faculty of Language Sciences, he is also affiliated with the Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Program, and the PhD Program in Second Language Acquisition.

Rajiv is taking over the role from Eric Raimy, founding director of Language Sciences, who is transitioning to a well-earned sabbatical after years of successful leadership during the program’s formative years.

Please join us in welcoming Rajiv to his new role – you may see him on the 11th floor of Van Hise in the Fall, or drop him a line at rgrao@wisc.edu. We look forward to seeing Language Sciences continue to flourish and grow under Dr. Rao’s directorship!
