Student Job Opening: Irish Language learning module development

An opportunity is available for two students to work on the project Culture Across the Waves: Supporting Global Irish Heritage Learners, funded by an Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment grant.

 

Irish Language online module development

Timeframe: October 1, 2024 – June 15, 2025

Workload: 4-5 hours per week, flexible hours, work mostly remotely

Salary: $16/hour

Application deadline: Friday September 20

 

Duties – assist in the creation of online Irish language learning modules, based on a linguistically-parsed audio corpus of dialogue from an Irish language soap opera. Students will help process the corpus database and audio files, build learning modules in the Moodle platform, and devise creative learning games and practice activities.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills
  • High computer literacy
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with audio editing software such as Audacity.
  • Familiarity with issues in second language acquisition, corpus linguistics, and/or minority language revitalization.
  • Helpful but not required (will train): prior experience with FLEx corpus software, Moodle platform, and/or the Irish language.
