In this talk I provide an overview of Talmy’s (2000) typology of motion and change events and I discuss the advantages of adopting a morphosyntactic approach to the typology, compared to semantic approaches. Afterward, I present a case study on a kind of Italian verb-particle constructions which prima facie seems to represent an exception to Talmy’s typological classification of Romance languages, as it displays manner verbs in predicates denoting events of goal of motion. I relate the possibility of licensing such constructions in a verb-framed environment to a peculiar feature of the particles involved.
