Rachyl Hietpas

Research Interests: Phonetics/phonology, Heritage Languages, Heritage Dutch in the US, Language Shift, Language Maintenance, Bilingualism

Awards: Recipient of the UW-Madison Graduate School Fellowship 2021-2022.

Conference Presentations: Rachyl has presented her research at many conferences, including the Heritage Language Research Institute, the Germanic Linguistics Annual Conference, the Interdisciplinary Conference for Netherlandic Studies, the Association for the Advancement of Dutch-American Studies, and the Annual Workshop on Immigrant Languages in the Americas.

Teaching Experience: At UW-Madison Rachyl is a Dutch TA and has also been a TA for Linguistics 101. She has experience being the Instructor for Spanish 2 and Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Spanish Linguistics at Pennsylvania State University.

Other Info About Rachyl: Rachyl completed her master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics at the Pennsylvania State University and her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. A Wisconsin native, Rachyl proudly uses the term bubbler, eats copious amounts of cheese, and always wants to see a Badger win.
