Travel and Lodging Information

Welcome to Madison, Wisconsin!

We’re excited to host you at ICPC. Below you’ll find helpful travel and lodging information to plan your visit.

Getting Here

By air

  • Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) is delightful and the closest airport to downtown and the UW-Madison campus, about 15-20 minutes by taxi or rideshare. Lyft and Uber are widely available, and local bus D2 connects the airport with the downtown and campus areas from right outside the terminal.
  • Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is 1.5-2 hours away by car or shuttle service. Badger Bus runs between the UW-Madison campus and MKE several times per day.
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) can be the most budget-friendly option, and is 2.5-3.5 hours away by car or intercity bus. Coach USA/Van Galder runs frequently between O’Hare and the UW-Madison campus.

By car

Madison is easily accessible by car and is well-connected to major Midwestern cities.

Paid parking near the Pyle center is available, but can be limited.

  • Helen C. White Garage – Steps from the Pyle center; this is the most convenient option for those who wish to drive to the conference venue.
  • State Street Campus Garage – About a 10-15 minute walk to the Pyle center.
  • Lake Street / Frances Street garage – Additional public parking options within walking distance.
  • Metered street parking on Langdon street is available, but has a 2 hour time limit.
  • Most hotels have parking options: free underground parking for guests at the Wisconsin Union Hotel. Other hotels have a daily fee for parking.

Getting around in Madison

Madison is a compact and walkable city, especially downtown and near campus.

  • Campus bus routes 80, 81, 82 and 84 loop the campus and are free for students, faculty, employees and visitors. The Pyle center is right on the route, as are several hotels. Check the schedule here.
  • Biking & Walking – Madison is a bike-friendly city with miles of trails and bike lanes. Electric bike sharing is available across campus and downtown through BCycle.
  • Madison Metro Transit System operates local bus routes across the city, including the downtown and campus area and far beyond.

Lodging

We’ve arranged special room blocks at a selection of hotels for conference participants. These hotels are in walkable areas with transit options to the Pyle center. Cutoff dates and rates vary. There are several other hotel options walking distance from campus, and other options like AirBnB are likely available.
