The 47th International Child Phonology Conference (ICPC 2026) will take place from May 27 – 29, 2026 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

ICPC 2026 welcomes proposals for oral and poster presentations on all aspects of children’s speech sound development and use, including typical and atypical development in monolingual and bilingual contexts, multilingualism, and early second language acquisition. Work on Indigenous, minority, and under-researched languages and dialects is particularly encouraged.

The conference supports a multi- and inter-disciplinary approach to speech sound development, spanning phonology, phonetics, speech production, speech perception, psycholinguistics, clinical linguistics, sign language phonology, computational modelling, educational approaches, interfaces with other grammatical levels, and the application of new technology.

Theoretical, empirical, experimental, and clinical contributions are welcome.

The spirit of ICPC has traditionally been informal, friendly, collegial and supportive. All presentations receive equitable and maximal exposure as there are no keynote talks and no parallel sessions.

Hybrid Session

We are introducing a designated hybrid session. This session will take place during the conference, but at a time different from in-person presentations and posters, and can be attended by both in-person and virtual attendees.

Key details are as follows:

  • Scope of virtual access: International affiliates participating virtually will have access only to the designated hybrid session.
  • Hybrid oral presentations: We will accept submissions for oral presentations in a dedicated hybrid session from individuals affiliated with international institutions.
  • Posters: We regret that we are not able to offer a virtual poster session this year.
  • Attendance format: International affiliates who prefer not to travel may attend the hybrid session virtually. Domestic participants will attend in person.
  • Registration: The standard in-person registration rate includes access to the hybrid session. International affiliates participating virtually will be eligible for a reduced registration rate of $30.00.
  • Scheduling: The date and time of the hybrid session will be announced once the final conference program is complete.

Information for Presenters

Oral presentations: Oral presentations are scheduled for 30 minutes (25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A). We ask that you send your presentation via email (icpc.uw.2026@gmail.com) by 3:00 pm the day before you are scheduled. If you are unable to email your presentation, please let us know as soon as possible. It is the author’s responsibility to make sure the presentation functions properly. We suggest using PowerPoint. If you are including audio, we recommend testing the presentation on another device to ensure it works properly.

Poster presentations: Posters must not exceed A0 size in portrait orientation (33 x 47 inches). There is a FedEx/Kinkos at 654 W Washington Ave where you may be able to print your poster, at your own cost.

Virtual presentations: Virtual presentations are scheduled for 30-minute blocks (25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A). We will be using zoom for the virtual session. You will be asked to share your screen to display your presentation. You will be sent a zoom link during the week of the conference.
