Congratulations to Linguistics PhD student Charlotte Vanhecke, who won the Best Abstract Award at the Germanic Linguistics Annual Conference this year! GLAC 31 was held at the University of North Texas on May 2-3, 2025. Vanhecke’s award was for the paper “Door het bos de bomen: A variationist perspective on laryngeal contrast in Dutch fricatives”. Also representing UW Lang Sci was Professor Joe Salmons and PhD student Rachyl Hietpas. While there, the crew was able to network with UW-Madison Linguistics PhD alum Laura Catharine Smith, who also presented research at the conference.
